Evaluating and Implementing Open-Source Research Guides Powered by Subjects Plus

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Open-source tools offer a great alternative to proprietary applications, but is open-source always the best choice for every library? St. Patrick’s Seminary & University would like to share their experiences with implementing Subjects Plus, an open-source subject guide content management system. Goals for this session include: (1) demonstrating the comparative advantages and disadvantages of Subjects Plus and Libguides; (2) discussion of the implementation process and the technical skills required; and (3) answering questions about the use of the application. The intended outcome of the session is to help library professionals determine if Subjects Plus is right for their library. Presenters will provide an “under-the-hood” look at how Subjects Plus works, and how the system can be modified for successful use in theological libraries. Open-source enthusiasts and those seeking library-service alternatives are encouraged to join the conversation.
