Economically speaking, we have nearly grown accustomed to the idea that eBooks are different from print books in terms of how they are purchased and assessed. Nevertheless, there continue to be questions about how to value and account for them as institutional assets. Libraries have focused on the acquisition, processing, cataloging, and lending of these resource, but what about a plan for de-selection in accordance with our collection development policies? What are the implications for the library and the institution it serves?
