Library for Everyone: Instructional Workshops for Staff and Administrators

This presentation will highlight the development of a workshop program designed for university staff and administrators. On the heels of the growth of a successful workshop series for students and faculty, our library has embarked on a series designed for this often overlooked group of campus constituents.

Beginning with a brief review of the literature published on library outreach to college and university campuses in the form of workshops, we will focus our attention on outreach to staff and administrators. We will present the case of our library’s workshop series, with details of the planning and evolution of the student and faculty workshop series, and how we’ve found success in marketing these workshops. Attention will then concentrate on the development of workshops for staff and administrators, as we share the planning of curriculum, including concrete examples of topics and activities; timing of workshops to maximize attendance; format; advertising; and what changed throughout our pilot year.

Discussion will include best practices of outreach through workshops as discovered in published literature and in lived experience; tips for budget-conscious librarians; and an opportunity for attendees to share their own experiences with similar program offerings.
