Reaching Out to Reluctant Faculty

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This conversation group will explore one of the burning questions of subject specialist librarians: how does a subject librarian engage with reluctant discipline faculty?

If your personal communication with discipline faculty is met with silence, efforts to attend faculty meetings are rejected outright, and suggestions for integrating information literacy instruction are answered with, “I do that myself, thank you very much,” – this conversation group is a chance to meet with colleagues who share your frustration. This is a chance for subject librarians to explore the reasons why some faculty choose not to engage with the library, and innovative ways we might bring them into the fold.

Participants are encouraged to bring at least one specific case to share in this conversation group, where discussion will be facilitated by references to the literature on subject librarian outreach and our goal will be assist one another in adapting, adjusting, and personalizing outreach techniques for greater impact.
